The 1996 Cline Reunion is now planned and standing
ready for an influx of many family members. This
years reunion includes two days of action packed, fun
filled activities.

For those arriving Friday or others wanting to have
some pre-reunion Cline fun, a special cookout will
be held in John and Kim Cline's backyard.

We officially open the reunion with a brunch
Saturday morning, held at Mt. Zion Lutheran, one of
our mother churches. After registering with the Cline
sisters (Metaleen, Sara, and Margaret) and Virginia
Gillenwater, and having a delicious meal prepared by
our own Gloria Cline and members of the church,
we'll hear a delightful genealogical talk by Janey Deal
on norms from our past. Then, an air-conditioned bus
will take interested people on a tour of Cline homes
and churches, lead by Ira Cline and Pauline Herman.
Those not going on the tour may want to visit the
Catawba County Historical Museum or go talk with
Evelyn Rhodes at the Catawba County Library in
Newton, who will be on hand to assist anyone doing
genealogical research. She has helped many a Cline
over the years and is standing by Saturday (8:30 am -
5:00 pm) ready to help us.

Saturday evening's fathering will include an
ancestor's country meal plus homemade desserts
donated by local Clines! The program should be fun,
lively, and informative (with a few surprises built
in). We bet you'll meet and thoroughly enjoy many
Cline cousins.

Sunday morning's focus is genealogy. John Yoder
will demonstrate computer technology and lead two
workshops on genealogical researching for beginners,
like most of us! He has prepared a booklet ($) on
how to research our family. Mike Gentry, among
others, will be on hand to suggest help for those who
may have come upon stumbling blocks in family
roots exploration. Ann Cline is preparing delicious
eatables for the researchers and museum attendees.

Sunday lunch is our most formal meal. Prepared by a
caterer it is going to be big and delicious! The
speaker is Dr. Larry Yoder, emeritus professor at
Lenoir-Rhyne College, who specializes in Lutheran
history, of which the Clines are a part. A business

meeting follows with decisions to be made on a tombstone for Sebastian, issues effecting future reunions, and election of officers. You'd better show up or you may be elected! Of course, the reunion also includes wonderful Cline souvenirs like t-shirts, hats, note cards, the cookbook many of us have used to prepare wonderful dishes, and yes, we're ordering many more mugs so you may buy lots for Christmas presents (and let's hope we don't run out this time)! There will also be a display of Cline artifacts (provided you bring a bunch). These will be in a locked cabinet at the Catawba County Historical Museum. A huge family tree will be attached to an entire wall at the museum! We'll be able to edit this tree, adding new information to our families and marking mistakes. These will be put into our Internet data bases and the future book on Clines. By the way, have you found us online? We're at http://genealogy.org/~yoderj/welcome.html. Also we have a Cline listserv. Join by e-mailing "[email protected]" and James Green will put you in and contact you for further information. And, we have a new photographer this year who will be available to take group and individual pictures! So, are you convinced? Doesn't this sound like an excellent Cline convention - also known as the best reunion going these days! If you need a motel room, call cousin John Cline at 1-704-345-5000 or 1-800- 345-5651. His travel agency, Hickory Travel and Tours, will get you a reduced rate room at the Hickory Inn. The cost is $47/night, breakfast included, but you'll have to provide your own stories for the other Cline guests with which you'll be staying! For those wanting to camp, we recommend Cross County Campground. It is 12 miles east of Newton and welcomes those with tents as well as trailers needing full hook-up. At jct Hwy 16 & Hwy 150, go 1 1/2 mile E on Hwy 150. Call 704-483-5897 for reservations - $15/night. Fill out the registration form - and we'll see y'all in June!
