    History of Book

There was a first 1969 edition which was in hard cover, about 50 copies.  Most of these went to my close relatives, libraries and a few were sold ($8. I think).  Then revisions were made and called different editions and reproduced on a copy machine about 10 at a time.  I think it got to edition four, and perhaps up to 200 were distributed.  None have been made in more than 20 years.

In the late 1980s I began to update the 1969 text and add a great deal to it.  Copies of this are printed to order from my computer.  The first copy was distributed about 1993.  Since they come from my computer I can update, correct and add to the data at any time.   Perhaps 5 dozen have been distributed.  Each copy is personalized to indicate for whom it was printed.  The J Yates Killian work in my book includes several footnotes and cross references to other essays etc.  It also points out some new knowledge and identifies any errors I was able to detect.  One of the most important is that two people are probably presumed to be one because of a missing comma between the names.

The text was produced with the aid of a genealogy program that can produce a printout of the data and notes recorded in the program. There is a five page errata sheet which the author says is not yet complete. The text includes at least the name of all known descendants. Note that Willard has some reservation about the relationship to Andreas Killian. Others believe it to be correct. The majority of the families cited are from Alabama. The author, Willard A. Israel of Crossville, Alabama died in his home on the evening of March 2, 1998. His sister looks up things folks think he may have had.

The costs $30 which includes shipping them book rate (His sister insures them also).

The Killian Family Newsletter is published only twice a year. Usually in the spring and again about July. George W. Killian prepares the text and sends the master to Bill Killian (Wm. D. Killian PhD) in NC who has it copied and mails them. There are about 300 on the mailing list. The North Carolina Killian association has paid for it. However, they are pleased to receive contributions towards its support. Several have sent in $20. Often $5 and $10.
